Why We Tried Coffee Enemas
Coffee enemas became part of our caregiving routine for Brad — something we explored for detox support and overall wellness. We had read about their potential to stimulate the bile ducts and support the liver’s natural filtering process, and decided to try them for ourselves.
Over time, we both noticed visible results that surprised us — colors and textures we didn’t expect. Even after many months, we still saw changes. When I eventually tried one myself, the experience convinced me this was a powerful tool for us personally, when done carefully.
Our Set-Up
We started with a stainless steel bucket kit — complete with a long tube and clicker valve for flow control. We chose organic coffee (medium to light roast, never instant) and distilled water only. We stayed away from rubber kits because we didn’t want hot liquid coming into contact with materials that could leach.
Temperature Check
The coffee was always cooled to body temperature. Our “pinky test” was non-negotiable: dip a clean finger into the liquid for 10 seconds — if it’s too hot to hold, it’s too hot to use. Burns are a real risk, so we took this step seriously.
Our Process
-
Prep (Optional) – Brad sometimes did a gentle rinse with a small bulb syringe and warm water first. This seemed to make the process more comfortable and effective for him.
-
Position – Brad would lean over the tub with a towel under his belly, and we’d hang the bucket from the shower rod.
-
Start Flow – We’d open the valve until only coffee (no air bubbles) came out, then insert the tube and slowly open the clicker.
-
Hold – Brad would take in 1–2 cups of coffee and hold it for up to 15 minutes if comfortable. If urgency hit sooner, he’d go right away.
-
Pelvic Tilt – When holding, he’d lie on the couch with his legs up on the backrest so the pelvis stayed slightly raised — encouraging the coffee toward the liver area.
-
Aftercare – The night before, Brad often had a fiber-rich dinner (salad or lightly steamed veggies) to help the detox process along.
Our Observations
The results were consistent enough that we kept coffee enemas in our rotation for over a year. They became almost meditative — quiet moments of intentional care in the middle of an otherwise busy and challenging healing journey.
