Suppositories

Why We Considered Suppositories

We didn’t learn about cannabis suppositories until Brad had already been under hospice care for some time. Looking back, I wish we had known about them much earlier — they might have spared him some of the strong THC effects he experienced with oral cannabis oil.

Before that, we had tried cannabis-oil-filled capsules, but by this stage Brad was exhausted. He was tired of being poked, prodded, and told what to do. He was worn down by the constant interventions. It was at this point that Brad decided he had had enough.

What We Learned

Through online caregiver groups, we discovered that suppositories could deliver cannabinoids with fewer psychoactive effects for some people. By the time we had the information, we could only try it in a limited way.

From what we observed and heard from others:

  • Suppositories can be made using a base like coconut oil mixed with cannabis oil and poured into molds.

  • They need to be stored in the refrigerator to keep their shape.

  • Some people report gentler effects compared to oral ingestion.

  • Dosage should always be discussed with a knowledgeable medical or cannabis professional.

⚠️ Important: There is limited formal research on cannabis suppositories, and experiences vary widely. Our story is simply one example. If you are considering this method, consult a healthcare provider who understands cannabis use and safe handling practices.
